M&C Represented the Chairman of the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society before the Hon’ble Chamber Judge.
In a, a Civil Petition for Leave to Appeal before the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh, the Chairman of the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) challenged an order of the High Court Division that stayed an order of the Chairman staying the elections originally to be held on 17th September, 2026.
In the Civil Petition for Leave to Appeal, the Chairman of the Society brought several allegations regarding irregularities in the holding of the elections which necessitated postponing the elections.
The petition submits that elections remain incomplete or disputed in 31 out of 68 national units (representing approximately 45% of the total electorate), where temporary ad-hoc executive committees nominated delegates in direct violation of Article 8 of President’s Order No. 26 of 1973.
International partner organizations, including the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), issued a joint communication warning that holding the elections with an unrepresented electorate and warned that it would severely compromise the international standing and global credibility of the Society.
The Hon’ble Appellate Division stayed the High Court Order that allowed the election to go ahead and instead ordered that the election be postponed.
